Island Architects was founded by F.H.
(Rick) Minson, III, AIA, and G.M. (Skip) Wallace, Jr., AIA, after 56 years of
combined architectural education, field experience and professional practice.
After receiving their first professional degrees of Bachelor of Architecture
and gathering several years of "Hands On" field exposure, Minson and
Wallace became associates with Hilton Head Island's original architects.
Today, Island Architects design theory exhibits the same sensitivity reflected
in Hilton Head Island's architectural style, nurtured and refined over the past
18 years into award winning projects throughout the Eastern Seaboard. Innovative
design ideas capturing indigenous features of the site are the distinguishing
characteristics found in recent architectural commissions created by Island Architects.
Consideration to site factors such as climate, topography, existing vegetation,
view and solar orientation, blended together with native building materials, create
harmonious architecture resulting in finished products concurrent with initial
concepts and creative expectations.
When one has all the answers about a building before it's place is selected,
the answers are not true. The site gives answers as the design grows and becomes
itself. The site will answer many questions through a qualified interpreter; Island
Architects. The value of "Site Reflective Architecture" is timeless
in it's design and appeal.
Attention to detail and an understanding of program requirements produces projects
on time and within budget and may be the most important ingredient in creating
successful architecture.
